Weekly Learning Review : Week Ending: 1st of February 2018

Weekly Learning Review
Class:       5                             Week Ending: 1.2.18
Literacy

This week
, we focussed on improving writing by creating a ‘Success Criteria’ before writing a short story. The children wrote a list of all the elements that make great writing eg capital letters and full stops in the correct place; synonyms for common words; dialogue; adjectives and other interesting vocabulary. The children wrote stories then used the ‘Success Criteria’ to peer assess each other’s writing. Students awarded ‘Stars and Wishes’. ‘Stars’ were awarded for examples of great writing and ‘Wishes’ were offered in order to help improve writing
Mathematics
Throughout the week, the children used coordinates to locate places on a map; they calculated areas of shapes by multiplying the width by the length of plane shapes. They also investigated the perimeter of shapes by adding the length of all sides of plane shapes.
Personal, Social, Health, Citizenship Education
The children explored the Personal Learning Goals introduced so far this year- ‘Open Mindedness’, ‘Resilience’, ‘Cooperation’, ‘Thoughtfulness’. They described a time when they demonstrated these qualities and highlighted friends who consistently displays these behaviours.
