Literacy

Spelling: Defined words with ‘ough and ‘augh’ endings. Students were asked to look up the definitions in the dictionary.
Comprehension: Students used various comprehension strategies to answer questions from on both fiction and nonfiction passages.
Writing: Students learned the difference between closed and open ended questions, using ‘who’, ‘what’, ‘when’, ‘where’ and ‘why’ to plan, write, and carry out interviews with partners. Students were expected to write the questions; differentiate between open ended and closed questions, and answer peer questions with full sentences, correct punctuation, grammar and capitalization.

Mathematics

Students worked in their student math books to practice multidigit multiplication and understand multiples of a number. They were also taught how to find the least common multiple between two numbers.
Students were taught that multiplication and division are inverse operations. They practiced multi digit multiplication and long division while checking their answers with the inverse operation.
Students were taught to round a number to the nearest ten and nearest hundred. They also used rounding to estimate the product (multiplication) of three and four digit numbers.

Science

Students learned about light and shadows and the various properties of objects and how they interact with light to produce or not produce shadows (i.e. solids and liquids).

Personal, Social, Health, Citizenship Education

Students discussed the definition of integrity and honesty and how they can apply it in the classroom and outside of school. They discussed consequences and how every action has a consequence, either positive or negative.
