Weekly Learning Review 9.11.17

Weekly Learning Review

Class:   5                                          Week Ending: 9/11/2017
Literacy
In spelling, we learned about words that start with ‘ch’. We understood the definitions of the words and used them in meaningful sentences. As for reading comprehension, we read ‘The Village Teacher’ using the Pupil Book and responded to the text by answering the comprehension questions.  Students planned and wrote an essay about their perfect holiday.
Mathematics
Students learned and identified different angles of triangles. They learned to identify triangles that are obtuse, right-angled, scalene, isosceles and equilateral triangles. They identified the triangles by observing their sides and learned to differentiate between triangles using different methods.
As for an activity, using marshmallows and sticks, students created models of triangles on geoboards.
As an ongoing activity, children revised knowledge of the multiplication facts.
Science
Students know that plants need energy from light for growth. Students know about plants and can name different parts of the plant and what plants need to grow. The children also learned about what plants need to grow (water, soil and light). They are also beginning to understand the process of photosynthesis and the ways in which plants reproduce. Students drew the plant and labelled the characteristics of it.
