·         Dealing with misunderstandings in fraction work. Practising cancelling.

Science
·         Revising States of Matter and Early Astronomers
·         Revision sheet with text page numbers issued for exams beginning 20th June
Personal, Social, Health, Citizenship Education
Charitable giving – thinking of others less fortunate. How school community can help.
Addressing classroom rules and behaviour - which have slipped in some quarters during Ramadan. (Not moving about, raising hands, not shouting out, and listening to other pupils who are speaking! Respect for one another).

Weekly Learning Review - Week Ending: 31st of May 2018

Weekly Learning Review

Class:              Year 5     Week Ending: 31/05/2018
Literacy
·         Using pictures as stimulus for creative writing. Showing examples of planning including initial use of simple words and senses then developed vocabulary using dictionary and imagination.
·         Synonyms and antonyms
·         Designing board game with written rules.
Mathematics
·         Completing division, revising addition of fractions and removing misunderstandings. Text book work on fractions and decimals.
Science
·         Revising “plants” for end of year examination. Learning about early astronomers, present and future developments in space exploration. 
Personal, Social, Health, Citizenship Education
Introduction to an understanding of issues affecting the wider world, including a concern for communities where human needs are not always met.

Children are
        Developing an understanding of money and distribution of wealth.

        Developing a sense of fairness and justice.

(Understanding  that people may exhibit lawful or unlawful behaviour. )

Class: Year 5          Week Ending: 25/05/2018
Literacy
·         Comprehension based upon myths (Unicorn)
·         Identifying key words and using them in sentences
·         Phonics: “al” added to noun to make adjective: e.g. tradition/traditional  norm/normal practice/practical  “al” added to verb to make a noun: remove/removal, arrive/arrival
·         Creating and dramatizing TV news reports including interviewing witnesses
Mathematics
·         Continue division topic correcting any misunderstandings
Science
·         Check understanding of measurement of light and fill gaps in earlier learning about plants to aid revision.
·         New Curriculum: Forces. Addressed as comprehension exercise
Personal, Social, Health, Citizenship Education
·         Importance of respect and areas where we need to improve – including respect for the Flag Ceremony, self- respect and expectations of respect for each other (including school staff and school rules).

·         Completing angles topic –using a protractor to measure angles.
·         Four rules practising to discover any misunderstandings.
·         Revising word problems.
Science
·         Magnetism and other forces revised.
Humanities
·         Germany facts tested.
Personal, Social, Health, Citizenship Education
·         House points and rewards. Unsatisfactory behaviours cannot be rewarded but the few cannot be allowed to spoil things for the majority.

Literacy
·         Focus upon Comprehension skills using a variety of texts and working upon inference.
·         Writing clearly and precisely.
·         Developing vocabulary through studying texts. Using position in sentence to deduce meaning of new/unknown words.
Mathematics
·         Working on angles, finding value of missing angles within 90 degrees and 180 degrees.  Testing x4 and x8 tables.
·         Measuring angles (Using protractors).
Science
·         Revising and developing Magnetism in preparation of later practical work in laboratory.
Humanities
·         Geography: Germany facts.
Personal, Social, Health, Citizenship Education
·         Part two: Recognising and rewarding individual and collective improvements in learning habits and identifying areas where individuals can improve.
·         Collective responsibility to keep classroom tidy. Taking pride in work space and presentation of work.

Weekly Learning Review - Week Ending: 19 April 2018

Weekly Learning Review
Class:Year 5                     Week Ending: 19/04/2018
Literacy
·         Focusing now upon developing narrative writing and how our understanding of purpose and audience can help us to use language most effectively.
·         Starting with introductions the children are editing and improving their initial responses by recognising where they have ”told” the reader information and how it can be improved by “showing” the reader instead.
·         Examples of improvements are discussed and used as models.
·         Opening words and sentences designed to grab the reader’s attention.
·         Importance of vocabulary choice, grammar and punctuation to enhance wring.
Mathematics
·         Examining factors of numbers in class and practising for Homework.
·         Using times table knowledge to support investigations
·         Understanding how factors are used when computing fractions
·         Measuring angles using knowledge of right angles and parts of right angles, divisions on clock face based upon factors of 360 degrees in a complete turn.
·         Revising for future testing of x4 and x8 tables
·         Revising polygons and formula for finding their internal/external  angles and extending by drawing polygons using a protractor correctly.
Science
·         Conduct tests on spectrum of light in Physics using prisms.
·         Devise questions to take knowledge and understanding further
·         Learning necessary Health and Safety rules and Scientific approach to discovery.
·         Build upon knowledge of magnetism and devise tests for Physics Lab. session.
·         (Part of Forces Topic for this Term)
Humanities
·         Geography: Introduction to Germany in preparation for International Day; identifying and building upon previous knowledge.
Personal, Social, Health, Citizenship Education
·         Recognising and rewarding individual and collective improvements in learning habits and identifying areas where individuals can improve. Focusing upon the vital importance of young learners to have high expectations - of themselves.
